Truth đŁ: attracting your ideal client is not all about you đŹâ
â This is a trap many photographers fall into, believing that their ideal client is simply someone who adores their work đ«â
Common things we hear that will likely sound familiar to you:
âMy ideal clients are stylish and give me full trust to just do my thingâ
âThey are laid back, down to earth and really vibe with our approach and the way we do thingsâ
I mean, who of us doesnât want those things? Itâs a tempting and innocent misconception, but itâs often grounded more in EGO than in true and powerful business strategy.â
In truth, your ideal client isn’t about how they make YOU feel as an artist, but rather about how you can meet THEIR needs.
No, this isnât a war against your art. It just means we need to help our clients see how what we do can affect their experience.â
So how do you attract your ideal client? Let’s break it down into two key steps:â
First, let’s set this straight: your ideal client is not a vague, undefined group of people who simply ‘love your work.’ Itâs a single person. And you need to know them â deeply.Â
This goes beyond knowing their age, location, or favorite coffee shop. It’s about understanding their mindset, their values, and what they genuinely seek in a photographer. Get into the nitty-gritty.
The more you understand their perspectives, the better equipped you are to understand if you can help them with the way you createâŠ.and THEN provide a solution that speaks directly to â
them.â
Your ideal client won’t discover your work by chance.
You need to be proactive in reaching them. How do you do that? Through intentional messaging and marketing that appeals to their unique wants and needs.
Craft a narrative that resonates with them.
Highlight the ways your philosophy and approach aligns with their vision.
PROVE your understanding of their needs through your online presence – from your website to your Instagram posts.â
â Attracting your ideal client isn’t about finding people who flatter your ego.â
â It’s about understanding the distinct needs of the ONE person you want to work with and intentionally positioning your service to meet those needs.Â
When you grasp this, you’re not just gaining clients, you’re building lasting relationships based on mutual value. â
Win-Win!!â
Ok, so we want to hear: who do you think YOUR ideal client is? Leave a comment!
